Welcome to Harlow Labradoodles. We are a small, home-based breeding program of multi-generational Australian Labradoodles, based in Seattle. Our specialty is breeding medium/standard dogs of mild temperaments that will make good family pets or therapy dogs.
Melissa and John Sullivan, owners of the program, live in Seattle, Washington. Our dogs live inside our home, not a kennel. This keeps the mom happier and by the time our puppies are ready to go to their new homes, they are familiar with the sounds, sights and smells of a household.
Family-Friendly
Our primary goal for breeding Labradoodles is to produce low to non-shedding dogs of good health and outstanding dispositions. While these dogs are typically very energetic, agile and playful, they are meant to be companions for their owners in their homes. A measure of success for us is how well a dog fits into the family.
Therapy Dogs
Our litters are formally temperament tested, and evaluation results are provided to new owners. Many of our puppies are identified as potential therapy dogs, and if an owner is interested in pursuing therapy work, we can provide direction and resources.
And...Allergy-Friendly
The original Australian Labradoodle line was bred in Australia in the 1980s to create a non-shedding service dog for a woman with severe allergies in Hawaii. The line has been continued and refined, and is now available in many countries outside of Australia.
This type of labradoodle is virtually shed-less, and those who are allergic to most dogs can often tolerate this breed. In addition, as an owner of any shedding dog can tell you, having your dog sit on your lap without leaving dog hair behind is wonderful!
Why is this dog breed low to non-shedding? The Labrador Retriever was combined with the non-shedding Poodle, then infused other breeds to soften the coat (Irish Water Spaniel, Curly Coated Retriever). The original program that partnered with the Royal Guide Dog Association of Australia to create this breed then continued to monitor the temperament and health of the dogs to ensure the quality of the line was not compromised.
For more information on the Labradoodle, please see the Australian Labradoodle Association of America, Inc. (ALAA).
